If anyone's doubts that Jew hatred has a mainstream home in the Angry Left, all one needs to do is read a few of their prize pundits - like Glenn Greenwald, the Nation's Katrina vanden Heuvel,,the New Republic's Jonathan Chait. the harridans on TV's 'The View' or Andrea Mitchell making excuses for Helen Thomas.
Again, if Thomas had suggested that Blacks should go back to Africa, would any of them be defending her?
A common thread in these genuinely despicable arguments is 'why was what she said considered anti-Semitic, rather than just anti-Israel? doesn't she have a right to her opinions?
As Richard Cohen, of all people points out, the Jews of Poland and Germany had nowhere else to go. As a matter of fact, the last Jews murdered in the Holocaust were killed by Poles in Kielce, when they tried to reclaim their stolen homes.
And for that matter, half of the Jews in Israel didn't originally have former ‘homes’ in Poland or Germany. They were ethnically cleansed from the Arab world after 1948, and unlike a lot of the ‘Palestinians’ they had no choice in the matter. And sending THEM home like Helen Thomas suggested is tantamount to a death sentence.
Don’t tell me Helen Thomas didn’t know that. It simply didn't concern her,or her friends defending her now because their ‘humanitarian concerns’ are, shall we say, subjective.
They basically agree with Hamas – they like the idea of a judenrein Middle East, and are happy to embrace segregation and apartheid – provided it’s limited to Jews.
